Richard Steel - 5th Dahn Master KJN (Kwan Jang Nim)
Head Instructor & School Owner
I began training in Kuk Sool in 2005 under my close friend and instructor, Master John Edmiston, and was instantly hooked. Over the past 20 years, I’ve dedicated myself to mastering forms, weapons, joint locks, and pressure point techniques—developing strength, flexibility, and a deeper understanding of body mechanics.
I believe martial arts is a lifelong journey of growth, both mental and physical. My goal is to inspire students to reach their full potential in a positive, ego-free training environment built on perseverance, discipline, and respect.
I continue to train under Master John and Master Sung Jin Suh, founder of United Mirae Kuk Sool and eldest son of Kuk Sool Won’s Grandmaster In Hyuk Suh. In 2022, I joined United Mirae Kuk Sool to further grow as a martial artist.
My proudest milestones include earning my black belt in 2009, then advancing every four years until achieving 5th Dahn Master in 2025 at the UMKS World Championships. After the birth of my daughter, I opened my own school in 2018. Since then, we’ve grown to over 200 students in a full-time dojang, where I’m proud to share the art that has shaped my life.
I look forward to training with you—together, we can achieve more than we imagine.
— KJN Richard Steel
